Politics  throws itself up in various forms leaving those who think they are professional politicians losing out without realising their place in the new order until it becomes way too late. I must give General Yakubu Gowon credit for doing what most Nigerians found difficult to do in the past.

For over one week from August 25, residents of two Gulf of Mexico states of Texas and Louisiana were greeted with another hurricane named Harvey. Although the Gulf States are not strange to tropical storms, Harvey turned out to be one of the worst natural disasters in the United States. One’s heart goes to the victims as well as the people of America in the disaster that claimed 30 lives with millions displaced in sorrows and tears.

As I prepared to write this column, a 14-year-old boy, or thereabout, was being featured on a news programme of a national television. He had his mother by his bedside at the National Hospital, Abuja, where he is undergoing treatment. His eyes were bloodshot as he faced the camera, telling Nigerians of his ailment.

Differences between reforms and restructuring are not only coarse but obvious for all to see; yet they appear completely lost within the unwholesome din of the latest restructuring discourse in the country today.

I can imagine your disappointment last week after the ruling of the Supreme Court declaring your election null and void.

Four out of six justices nullified an election in which 10.6 million or 54 percent voted for you as their choice, each Justice assuming the equivalent or more of 2.6 million Kenyan votes. This can only make sense in the maths of jurisprudence. But all hope is not lost.
