That the Nigerian economy is in a recession is no longer news. In fact, for some of us, it was predictable, even long before the Economic Management Team was aware that it was on the way. The International Monetary Fund, IMF, recently projected contraction of 1.8% for 2016. The Federal Government while not officially contesting the IMF estimates still clings to the faint hope that “the economy will show recovery in the third quarter of this year” (Mrs Adeosun).

In January 2016, the CBN announced that it had stopped, with immediate effect, the sale of foreign exchange to Bureau de Change (BDCs), so as to reduce pressure on Nigeria’s foreign reserves. The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has therefore directed BDCs to henceforth source forex from the autonomous market.

The word, “continuity” seems to be central to the campaigns of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state. From the way the word has been severally bandied around of recent by leaders, officials and members of the party, the latter are no doubt convinced that the out-going governor, Adams Oshiomhole who belongs to their party has done well and as such should be succeeded by another APC man. What does not appear to occur to the party is that there are so many things that have happened in the state that many citizens never wished for and never expected.
