Dr. Charles Soludo, Professor of the Economic Sciences, former Economic Adviser to the President of the federation, and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, very recently said at a book launch on the subject of Biafra that ignoring the new Biafra secessionist movement will be a mistake by the Buhari administration. I couldn’t agree more. Soludo just amplifies the position which this column has consistently taken in the past, and which I wish to reaffirm today. The Biafra movement is a slow-burning fire at the moment.

Welcome to the proposed strike by our Senate
Wednesday, November 02, 2016 is obviously a day when our current Senate ought to be remembered for making a great point during its tenure. On that day, our Senators resolved to go on strike if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fails to conduct all pending re-run elections into legislative positions in Rivers State. Following the threat, a few Nigerians berated the Senate for behaving like an over-grown labour union.
It is time to address the health of our male citizens
Over the years, I have come to accept that we, as a people do not like to discuss health issues and we will do almost anything to avoid talking about our health even if it kills us. So let be honest, we are not very good at prioritising our health and as long as the outside looks good, then we are good to go. As long as no one knows and we keep going on and on, ignoring our body and all the signals telling us to stop and care for our health.

Nigeria is not yet a nation in the real sense of the word, because the awareness of belonging to a community with shared history, common values and feeling of oneness and solidarity to shape the future together has yet to germinate and blossom in a significant number of Nigerians from various ethnic nationalities and religions across the country. Nationhood is not just about belonging to the same geopolitical space with others. Rather,it entails a dynamic psychic nexus, a glue of creative imagination and habitual feeling of unity-in-diversity with fellow nationals at both conscious and subconscious levels, including a shared strong belief in an ideal, dream and historical destiny that must be worked for – and, if necessary, die for as well.
