The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to go ahead and collate the results of Saturday’s governorship election in Brass, rather than bowing to pressure by the State Governor, Douye Diri, to move the collation to the Bayelsa state capital, Yenagoa.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hope Uzodimma, winner of last Saturday’s governorship election.

The INEC Returning Officer for Imo State, Prof Abayomi Fashina, announced Uzodimma as the winner.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “to promptly establish a joint, credible, transparent, effective, and broad-based investigation into allegations of electoral bribery and violence in the off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states.”

Owerri – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said collation of Saturday’s  Imo governorship election results from the 27 council areas of Imo state, has been concluded.   

Collation of the results of the governorship election held in the state on Saturday will start by 10 a.m. on Sunday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kogi State, Dr. Gabriel Longpet, has said.

Two party agents engaged in a hot battle early Sunday morning at the Imo State Collation Centre in Owerri, the state capital.

The Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum has expressed deep concern over the alleged manipulation of results in certain polling units in Nembe and Brass Local Governments during Saturday’s governorship election in the state, and called for cancellation of results in affected areas.

A Labour Party (LP) agent in Imo State, Calistus Ihejiagwa, has been beaten and bundled out of the Imo State Collation Centre in Owerri.

Some residents have attributed the massive turnout of voters in Kogi Central for Saturday’s governorship election to the love for Gov. Yahaya Bello and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Alhaji Usman Ododo.
