It is no longer news that the PDP leadership has presented itself—and us by implication—with a ‘fait accompli’. It has endorsed unanimously, the candidature of the incumbent President. Now the choice is ours come 2015, to reject or accept the endorsement.

Marriage can be a minefield and needs careful navigation. Running a business with your spouse brings added risks. It is a double-edged sword. It can be so wonderful on the one hand and on the other hand it can put enormous strain on the marriage and even cripple it.

Our system has become so warped that some of the things that bring happiness elsewhere only succeed in producing the opposite effect in Nigeria. This is where corruption has landed us.

Deputy governors are supposed to be dumb. Vice presidents are expected to be morons, at least, in Nigeria. Here in Nigeria, the personal interests of a governor are more important than those of the state he bestrides. The individual concerns of a Nigerian president are put above those of the nation.

I spent the last two weeks in Saudi Arabia among Islamists. These are Muslims who recognize the imperatives of complying with the demands of their faith to visit Makkah for the Hajj, and are blessed with the means to do so. There were millions of us, all submitting to the incomparable awesomeness of the entire exercise.

The question of how rich President Goodluck Jonathan is should not come as a surprise to any Nigerian that has been following report of his curious listing by an American publication as the sixth richest head of state in Africa.

When announcing the date oflong-overdue local government elections in Delta State, the chairman of the state’s independent electoral commission, Mr Moses Ogbe, said, in that grating grandiloquence bordering on bombast that Nigerian public servants love so much, as follows: “Having regard to the desire of Deltans for the conduct of a smooth and hitch-free Local Government Election in the state, the commission has resolved that the elections will hold on Saturday, 25th October, 2014.”
