Nigeria’s Legislature finally fails
The Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria 1999 provides for a National Assembly made up of 2 bodies, the Senate and the House of Representatives to make laws for the good governance of the nation. It also creates a House of Assembly in each state of the federation for the same purpose. Each of these bodies is expected to make laws through a process that is virtually universal. First, is the proposal stage of identifying the need for a bill to make a law.
Our roads: Not fit for purpose
Our roads are littered with the tales of loss of lives. Over 70 people died and countless others injured at the Upper Iweka Roundabout in Onitsha, Anambra State. This happened last Sunday when a fuel tanker ploughed into a building and burst into flames. It happened in broad daylight; the horror was compounded as the fire extended to and touched 15 passenger buses, motorcycles and burned its occupants beyond recognition. Amongst the victims were a pregnant woman and number of children.
Do not blame Cameron, put it on ASUU
The United Kingdom education landscape is one that is populated by many foreign students from all over the world, including Nigeria. In the past fifteen years, the number of Nigerians offered admissions to study in the UK rose far more than it used to be. This increase has resulted in annual ‘migration’ of Nigerian students to UK universities to pursue different courses, both at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. The most accessed by Nigerians of the UK education system is at the post graduate level.
My Guilty Dream Again
I begin again, this week, with yet another relay of “My Guilty Dream.” The truth about it all is that no matter how hard I try, I just cannot stop dreaming. I dreamt that I was Head of Government. Please, don’t get me wrong, I did not see myself as Hon. Earnest Sonekan, who was appointed Head of Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, neither did I see myself go through the rigours of electioneering campaigns (with all forms of promises), and of course, I am far from the military circle, so forceful overthrow is equally ruled out, but I just emerged. That is the power of dreams.
