Corruption & the deepening crisis of values
To a keen observer of Nigeria’s haphazard evolution as a nation-state, the country is currently facing serious crisis of values. Specifically, since the civil war ended in 1970, there has been a paradigm-shift in the value orientation of Nigerians.
Enjoying a world of no limits!
Many people have made frantic efforts to move forward in their lives and change levels in their respective businesses, careers, pursuits and endeavours. But nothing has worked for them.
Lawmakers, surgery & constituents
Helen, do you think these politicians who won elections into our states House of Assemblies, House of Representatives and the Senate, really know what their duties entail?” asked a friend
“I should think so, or, rather, I hope so. Why do you ask?”
Anyone can die, anytime
Politicians can die anytime. And that was the case of 56-year -old Christopher Shale. He was as big as they come. He is a “big”, what they call, fish in the conservative party! Christopher was chairman of the West Oxfordshire Conservative Party Association. And that covers David Cameron ‘s constituency.
I believe…
Truth is hardly ever universal as there is no ideology with complete acceptance by all of humanity. Many people have different truths and only the passion with which that truth is defended is universal. Some people hold fast to the truth that there is no truth and that in itself is a legitimate right and a truth of sorts.
Let us invite the Americans to colonise us
In the aftermath of the Boko Haram bombing of the Louis Edet House, special agents from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation,FBI, promptly arrived Abuja to begin to collect data on the incident. Some newspaper reports also claimed the arrival of the Central Intelligence Agency,CIA of the US. I suppose in this climate of global terror, there is increasing transnational cooperation between and among the various spy agencies of the world and the gumshoes who pit-patter around each other to stem the rise of militant terrorism.
419 positions in government
When the Yar’Adua administration promised to give Nigerians thousands of electricity megawatts at the end of its first year in office, officials of that government themselves knew that the game plan was to deceive the people.
Boko Haram: The death of innocence
What exactly was the object of the State manhunt for the late Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf?’ Was it to arrest and try him? Or to track him down and kill? Should you ask the amazingly civil-minded, suddenly-rights-respecting soldiers who, not only nabbed the man in one piece, but did the right thing handing him over to an investigating authority, or ask that same ‘authority’, the notorious Nigeria Police Force, which, with savage, murderous intent, took the accused in and wasted him.
Zoning in Banga Soup Republic
In a true democracy, where the separation of powers between the Executive, the legislature and the judiciary is firmly entrenched, the President has no business interfering with the selection of the officers of the legislature.
More Stones For Glass Court
THE Nigeria Football Association headquarters, more famously known as the Glass House, can attest to the lyrics of Peter Tosh. Blows are being thrown in various directions, even by those who cannot take blows.
If I were in her shoes…
AT the time of writing, speculation about Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s career plans is rife. Some say that the former Minister of Finance and current Managing Director of the World Bank will soon leave Washington behind and come home to play a key economic management role within President Jonathan’s administration.
Half fermented wine in an old bottle
Those who voted massively (PDP and non PDP members) for President Jonathan would, no doubt, would somehow unhappy with the names being rolled out by the media on the composition of the Federal Cabinet. If the list is approved by the Senate, the President should be seen as a shrewed politician and a party loyalist, and not what many of his supporters would have preferred.
Hypocrites as leaders (2)
TODAY, I address Kawu’s ignorant assertion that I hate Islam and the North. In particular, I will disprove the effete pablum inherent in this statement: Unfortunately, Nnanna’s deep-seated hatred for the North and strong anti-Islam bias won’t allow him to find reason in anything concerning his object of hate.
A voice for the restitution of history
LAST week, Mr. Sam Amuka came to Abuja. I met him in the company of Alhaji Samaila Isa Funtua, and as has become norm, when two or three people meet today, we discussed the state of our country. Uncle Sam re-iterated fears about the deep chasm in perspective, between North and South.
Those that the demons claimed (1)
I have come under fire, lately, from quarters accusing me of pressing a mere panic button with intent to malign professional boxing through defining and labeling it as one deliberately designed for self-impoverishment.
