One man’s patriot, another man’s terrorist?
On July 22, 2011, the world watched in horror as a heinous crime was committed by one person to many others in Norway. While the horror was unfolding with the immediacy of the media, there were many voices who lent their views to a culprit or culprits who could be the Asian youths in Norway or the usual suspect being the Al Qaeda. After all, it was a bomb in the centre of town and there were fatalities. This person or persons then travelled to carry out more massacres on Utøya Island. Utøya Island is situated in a lake about 26 miles north-west of Oslo where the Labour Party was hosting its youth camp
The new minimum wage: The way out
The new minimum wage issue has not only become contentious but has already provided a pointer that something grave could happen because of it from tomorrow, August 1.
Exposé on Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion (3)
Next, Dawkins considered Stephen Unwin’s Bayesian probabilistic argument for the existence of God. In his book with the pompous title The Probability of God: A Simple Calculation that Proves the Ultimate Truth, Unwin listed six items which reflect his own personal judgments: he arbitrarily assigns numbers to them and, with a facetious emergency injection of faith, arrives at the ridiculous conclusion that the probability of God’s existence is 95%.
Re: Court order for road repairs
One keeps learning every day. It was from the reaction of one of the readers who wrote in on the above subject that I learnt that a bill has to be passed by our lawmakers that would enable people to sue the government on the state of our roads, before that action can be successfully taken.
Planning with dubious data: Vision 20:2020 revisited
One of the reasons we are getting nowhere in Nigeria lies in the fact that too often our conversations, discussions or disagreements are conducted with dubious data as the basis for discussion.
The ‘secularism’ argument (2)
If we go strictly by the English dictionary definition of the term ‘secular’ to mean concern ‘with temporal, worldly matters’ to the exclusion of ‘religion’, many of the ‘apparently-secular’ Scandinavian countries especially of Sweden, Norway and Denmark which have state-established Lutheran Churches –and most of whose Ministers are said to be drawn virtually from the civil service-, would unquestionably be ‘non-secular’.
The Voice of Victory: Enjoying a world of no limits! (5)

long tenure blues
The idea of a change in the length of the tenure of the President, the Governors and the respective Legislature has been mooted on various occasions in the past.
Suffering and smiling!
NEWCOMERS to this country often ask me why most Nigerians are so slavishly willing to endlessly, cheerfully and calmly tolerate bad situations that would trigger off riots or other forms of mass protest in other parts of the world.
A word for Lagos and sports minister
May I start with Lagos State. They are the hosts of the next National Sports Festival. They saw the opening and closing ceremonies of the Garden City Games in Port Harcourt.
Zhangs Of Our Sports
INJURY can devastate an athlete. The lucky one who recovers and returns to competition fails to realise what the others suffer.
Between us and others
Many Nigerians would always want to discuss the economic and political position of Nigeria or what is often regarded as the ‘National Question‘. Every Nigerian adult, whether educated or not, would want to know the position of the country, as compared with other nations of the world.
Rage over Islamic banking
PERSONALLY, I don’t see anything wrong with Islamic banking, but I can understand the sentiments of those opposing it. Question: Would I want it introduced? Answer: yes, but subject to terms and conditions.
There is always another day
AS far back as 1601, some 410 years ago, many things, including people’s thinking patterns, should have been different from what they are now.
Nigerian security: Which security? Whose security?
AFTER a hiatus of about two years or so, I travelled by road from Ilorin to Abuja last weekend, in the company of my friend, Nurudeen Abdulrahim.
