A Professor wanted to teach his students what he called an important lesson of life. After the day’s lecture, he seated them and gave each student a sheet of paper. He asked them to crumble their sheets into hard balls. He then placed a basket near his table at the front of the room and asked them to throw the balls of paper into the basket. As to be expected, the rate of success depended mostly on the proximity to the basket.

It is ever present at weddings. If it does not come up during sermons in the church, it will come up during the reception. I am talking about advice to new couples not to allow family, friends or others get involved in their marriage. Often those advising do not distinguish between interference and intervention. It is a blanket non-involvement of outsiders in the new marriage.

It is amazing how in most of the things that ought to matter to us as a people, as a nation, in a hurry to be what we want to be, we are always neither here nor there. I am talking about how we adopt practices and often conventions of the modern western world and yet deliberately refuse to implement such practices and conventions to the fullest.

THE numerous victory songs and congratulatory messages flowing from various parts of the world following the Tuesday seizure of Raqqa, the ‘capital’ of the Islamic State, ISIS, Caliphate, drowned the victory songs from the Philippines.  On that same day, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte declared that Marawi City in Southern Philippines seized last May by the  pro-ISIS  Maute militants, had been liberated.

AFTER calling out the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, twice in ten months, I gave up. The governor has the whole of Imo as his duchy and he will do what he will do. So, what’s the point?
