THE Federal Government on Monday said that critical sections of the East-West road have been tackled and that vehicles are freely moving with the help of the Setraco.

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has pleaded with youths planning a nationwide protest against bad governance to shelve the idea and instead support the President Bola Tinubu-led renewed hope administration as it strives to make life better for all citizens.

Former Niger Delta militants have finalized arrangements to stage a massive protest against the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, over the alleged abandonment of the East-West road project which is very key to the nation’s economic livewire.

The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, Wednesday said the completion of African Tran-Saharan highway will boost the economy of the South East and Nigeria  in general.

The Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi has met Governors and stakeholders from Nasarawa, Benue and Kogi States in the North Central region of the country to seek their support for the proposed 477 kilometers Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Apo superhighway which is to be constructed by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The House of Representatives has asked  the Minister of Works, David Umahi to immediately revoke the contract for the construction of flooded East-West Road awarded to Rock Result Nigeria Limited and other contracts and re-award same to a company with expertise and capacity.

Arewa youths under the aegis of Concerned Northern Forum (CNF), in keeping with their patriotic duty as watchdogs of good governance and policy reforms, have thrown their weight behind the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi over the ultimatum given to Julius Berger and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

Some residents of Okun Ajah in the Eti Osa Local Government area of Lagos State have cried out over an alleged ethnic bias and favouritism in the planned re-routing of the  Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway in the community.

According to him, the Federal Government has paid N10bn as compensation for communities and individuals along the road corridor affected by the project. 

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has announced that work on the Abuja- Kano Road project will resume this week.
