Let the battle begin
I received a newsflash from the Nation on the day a group of Northern elders was to announce the candidate they had chosen to do battle with President Goodluck Jonathan in the struggle for who carries the banner of the ruling PDP during the presidential election of 2011.
*deepening democracy?
The acceptance of the PDP’s de cision to field Atiku Abubakar by his rivals is a model of democratic practice at the highest level. Pardon me if, even as a Nigerian, I affirm that it is “unNigerian”. Perhaps it presages a brighter future for our national politics
For Mike Emenalo
On August 17, 2009, I sent in the following diary material from Berlin where I was covering the World Athletics Championships:Avinoam Porot is in his 60s. He is an Israeli journalist who would always remind you that he is from a beautiful country.

Chicken more than a republic
APPARENTLY, ours is a chicken republic in which the chicken is greater than the republic. We have discovered one good thing about the land, though in whatever you do, you have a choice.
MEND with a tarnished halo
I ONCE watched an interesting documentary on National Geographic Wild channel, which brought home to me the elders’ saying: “No matter how well you treat a wild animal it will still have its eyes on the bush”.
From Indictment to Resolve
Amateur Boxing in Nigeria has gone under chiefly because the house leadership is a far cry from the one of 18 years ago, under which was effectively interpreted the full meaning of Control, components of which includes monitoring, organization and superv-ision
Economics of the minimum wage
NIGERIANS are not a complex people, but we have a few who would want to ride the rest of us like donkeys. Whenever we seem to be making a headway, these manipulators throw spanner into the works. They usually do this from dark alleys so that their identity will be concealed.
