Oriire and the courage to reject compromise, by Rotimi Fasan

Oriire and the courage to reject compromise, by Rotimi Fasan

After 56 harrowing days, the 44 abductees in the Oriire community of Ogbomoso LGA are now out of the forest. These are schoolchildren and their teachers. Two of the teachers had been killed after the abduction while another was killed on their school ground. A commercial bike rider was also killed as the abduction unfolded. But […]

Coach Bolaji Ojo-Oba, Ph.d, Why Not?

Coach Bolaji Ojo-Oba, Ph.d, Why Not?

THERE must be a limit to the cynicism we are allowing to ruin our football. What is really wrong in Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba, Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football (Federation) Association selecting the players for Eagles next international friendly? Peter Rufai, the one we call Dodomayana, one of our best goalkeepers ever, is opposed to the idea. I cannot understand his grouse.

NIGERIA‘S VOLATILE POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT

NIGERIA‘S VOLATILE POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT

THE recent visits of the former British Prime Minister, Blair and the United States‘ past President Bush to President Jonathan (acting) could be regarded as the acceptance by the western powers and our friends of the silent political revolution (coup) carried out by our civilian legislators.

The saga continues

The saga continues

Some say he was immediately taken to Katsina. Some say he was taken to the Presidential Villa. Then there are those who insist that the Acting President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, was not notified in advance…and those who say that Jonathan was not only notified in advance but was the one who made all the necessary protocol and security arrangements.

The Mamadou Tandja disease

The Mamadou Tandja disease

MAMADOU TANDJA who was removed in a military coup last Thursday, February 18, after being president of Niger Republic for 10 years, was a time bomb. His overthrow was not only unexpected, but was in some circles, eagerly awaited.

Let’s say bye to Yar’ Adua

MEDIA reports that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia refused the Federal Executive Council (FEC) six-man delegation the rights for their presidential jet to land indicates that those who benefit from our political impasse are still hard at work. Before we go into that, let us even ponder the reported denial of landing rights.

Jonathan and a new Nigerian Leadership

Jonathan and a new Nigerian Leadership

Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has not even been in office for long, yet people are going around shopping for a vice-president, why? Instead of letting him do his job, some miscreants are making mockery of Nigeria once again. Where in the constitution does it say that an acting president must have a deputy to function?

The new Nigerian cancer emergency

The new Nigerian cancer emergency

THE Nigerian Health Minister, Professor Babatunde Shotimehin, before he got sucked up into the whole Saudi Arabia issue, had quite enough on his plate. He always had the HIV/AIDS thing, which was always destined to become a racket
This has been the main focus of my teaching, clinical practice and research activities in the past several years.

Politics of health

Politics of health

SENATE plans impeachment. Senate asks Nigerians to pray. Senate orders Yar’Adua to do this. Senate…
I went to my bank the other day and met a lady teller complaining about “too much talk” over the President’s ill-health while “people who should know are not hitting the nail on the head”. I was intrigued by this remark. Who are the people that should know, and how do they go about hitting the nail on the head in this matter?

Wrong steps

Wrong steps

ACTING President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday February 16, made his debut on the international stage. It was at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of State Summit which had been on hold due to President Umaru Yar’Adua’s poor health. It was a befitting one for him as 10 of the 13 expected ECOWAS leaders showed up and the rest were represented.

Understanding the America presided over by Obama (2)

Understanding the America presided over by Obama (2)

Congress had long before prohibited Black militia, and administrative rules prohibited Black service in the standing forces. But in the War of 1812, Captain Perry’s crews could not be filled without arming Blacks. “Veterans” of the war were entitled (apparently by Congressional act) to land bounties on the public domain.

Yar’Adua’s health and the shame of a nation

Yar’Adua’s health and the shame of a nation

He should put the power vested in his office to good and immediate use. If other Nigerians, including members of the National Assembly, governors and traditional rulers have tried to no avail to reach the President and know something of his health, it should not be said that the Acting President equally failed.

Haiti: A feedback from Austria, Benin…

On February 13, 1994, Nature Servant Phillip Eguaseki Asomwonriri returned home to Africa. To come along with us about Africanite Religion, we cite from the Africanite Proclamation dated, WEDNESDAY,1994, page 46, subtitled, “The Divine Nature” A glance at the Universe; instantly reveals how magnificent and abundant Nature possessions contain and HER endless treasures remain a source of bewilderment to those who possess the Earthly spirit of the Universe.

The Born Again Farouk Muttalab and World Peace!!

The Born Again Farouk Muttalab and World Peace!!

The American authorities must be cautious that the predictable life term or long term jail sentence or indeed execution of Muttalab would not only turn Farouk into a martyr worthy of emulation by other young Islamic fundamentalist prospects, but may also make the U.S. to miss a great opportunity to enlist the young Nigerian in counter propaganda against terrorism, and suicide attacks and the deliberate promotion of Islam as a religion of peace among young Muslims.

Tough line!

Tough line!

Hi readers! Apparently, things took a different dimension after I left Jos. Instead of returning to Lagos to spend the Christmas, and then leave for Accra, Seb actually spent the Christmas there. When he phoned on Christmas day, he didn’t tell me he was still in Jos. We joked and prayed together over the phone for our children.
