I have watched the goings-on of the general elections and have noted what transpired and I thank God for His Mercies.

GEJ will be leaving the Presidency come March 29 and GMB will step in. What goes for him are his trustworthiness and his integrity. It is on that we believe he would do what he promises to do for his countrymen and women.

Rilwan Akiolu, Oba in Lagos claims to be the “owner of Lagos.” He presumes, of course, because the throne which he says is an “undivided throne” is no more than papier mache. The Oba of Lagos, under the guarantees of Nigeria’s republican constitution and in the dispensation of its constitutional democracy, is no more the owner of Lagos than the Akara seller on the streets of Lagos. The Nigerian constitution grants equal citizenship and the rights pertaining to that citizenship to all its citizens without prejudice to gender, ethnicity or status.

Another writer confidently claimed that Buhari’s unprecedented fourth attempt at the presidency was borne out of a strong desire to contribute to the well being of Nigerians: that was why he endured all the “mudslinging and outrageous insults directed at his person” without complaints and retaliation

It is exactly six weeks to May 29 today. Six weeks to the end of Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s six year presidency. This, as traditions go all over the world, is called the transition period and it is a most difficult period to manage—for the incumbent, the incoming and the nation.

Tomorrow, Catholics in Nigeria celebrate Mother’s Day. Some denominations celebrated Mother’s Day on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Some other countries, like America (May 11), are yet to celebrate Mother’s Day. Anyway, whether it is in advance or in arrears, I wish our beautiful and wonderful mothers a very happy Mother’s Day.

Chibok was a monumental national disaster. Cold horror instigated by religious extremism and lecherousness, savagely delivered. But that was not all. The other sacrilege was the presidency’s baffling indifference to that monstrosity .

My husband’s biggest fans are women. Most times when we are in public places, you see women coming to hug him. Some will tell me plainly that I should not be jealous, that he was made for the public, that he defends public interest. So many people who watch him on television are always excited whenever they see him physically.

I am sorry if I sound like a sore loser, but I cannot graciously accept the result of last weekend’s elections in Rivers State. Resounding wins were declared for the PDP’s gubernatorial flagbearer plus all of its State House of Assembly candidates. And Chief Nyesom Wike is now, officially, the Governor-Elect.

The dreaded 2015 elections have been concluded and the umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had given its final decision. The results are clear except in the two states of Abia and Imo whose final results remain in abeyance–the election in each state was judged to be inconclusive.

FORMER President Obasanjo, as we can see, used the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to rule Nigeria for eight years. As soon as he assumed office in 1999, he made up his mind to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state, his pet party system which he canvassed vigorously while Nigeria conducted its transition to civil rule programmes.
