Obi polled 94 votes to defeat the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, who scored 43 votes and the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who scored 16 votes.

“Our attention has been drawn to some incendiary comments by spokespersons of the opposition parties, notably the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party regarding the yet-to-be-announced results of the elections that held yesterday.”
