The Voice from the East (VEAST), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has called for a coalition between Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and NGOs to tackle the rising cases of rape and incest against the girl-child in the society.

A 28-year-old man, Kelvin Michael, who allegedly raped a woman to death, was on Friday arraigned in Ota, Ogun.

LAGOS — THE Lagos State Government, yesterday, disclosed that no fewer than 3,089 cases of sexual and domestic violence were reported in the past eight months in the state. 

A 30- year -old man Adewale Olakusi has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 13-year old girl (name withheld) in Ota area of Ado-Odo/Ota local government.

AN Igbo pressure group, Voice  from the  East, VEAST,  has recommended death penalty for rapists, stressing that rape should be punishable by hanging in order to reduce the increasing cases of rape in the society.

RAPE has continued to be a menace in the society with many cases recorded on daily basis. While most of them are unreported to appropriate authorities, some victims and families do, but no justice, as accused are not duly punished.

Mrs Juliana Joseph, the Director, Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), Kaduna, said on Monday that the centre had received 95 cases of sexual assaults from January to July 2018, of which 16 were males.

Not fewer than five persons have been arrested for rape of minors by men and officers of the Katsina State Police Command.
