Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) says it has added a total of 1,694 distribution transformers to ensure power supply improvement in Edo state since the new management took over in 2013.

Mr Rowland Sekibo, Chairman, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers, on Wednesday said that the council was working to restore power supply to residents.

Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, has assured electricity consumers in Delta, Edo, Ondo and Ekiti states of improved power supply, noting that it had  commenced replacement of faulty equipment  for better service.

Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has accused the country’s power Generation Companies, GENCOs, of not being truthful about the integrity of their plants’ outputs and financial claims on capacity charges.

A community leader in Sapele, Delta State, Mr Ben Tobi, has criticised the Minister of Power, Mr Babatunde Fashola and the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC, officials over the poor power supply in Sapele, and other parts of the country, saying, “Poor electricity supply in the country is the bane of socio-infrastructural growth in the country.”

THE Federal Government has said its huge investment in the power sector is not translating into improved power supply in the country because the power distributing companies, DISCOs,  have no capacity  for effective  distribution of  electricity generated by transmission companies.

Residents of Warri, Delta State and neighbouring communities have been groaning under epileptic power supply, calling on the Federal Government to sack Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, from providing electricity to the area.

THE Federal Government yesterday, announced that it has added 40 megawatts mobile power transformer to the 132/33KV to Ohiya Transmission sub-station in Umuahia, as part of its effort to improve power supply in Abia State.
