The Federal High Court in Abuja has okayed hearing a suit seeking to compel President Bola Tinubu to provide maximum security to the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Party (NDP), Mr Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday dismissed claims by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, that a joint presidential ticket featuring Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso would have a stronger chance of winning the 2027 presidential election than if both politicians contested separately.

“For years, families in Benue, Plateau and other communities across Nigeria have lived under the constant shadow of fear, violence and displacement. Mothers have buried their children, children have become orphans overnight, farmers have abandoned their lands, and entire communities have been left devastated. We cannot continue to accept this tragic cycle as though it were normal. It is not,” Obi said.

“I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped. I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes,” he wrote.

When pressed on whether he would definitively be on the ballot in 2027, Obi responded bluntly: “Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive.”

“Even I cannot be scared of Peter Obi, not to talk about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or our party, the APC. What displays around Peter Obi is AI politics. It is putting something on nothing. Nobody is scared of Peter Obi. Peter Obi is not a threat to our president because Peter Obi himself knows very well that he cannot even face me, let alone face the president,” the minister said.

“But, to my utmost shock, I discovered that, contrary to my assumption that they had been in regular communication over the matter, Governor Seyi Makinde had not received a single call from President Bola Tinubu,” Obi wrote.

Obi urged the federal government and state governments to make proactive investments in securing agricultural corridors and support smallholder farmers with accessible resources.

Obi described robust human capital as the foundation for national development, stressing that investment in education and healthcare was essential to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential.
