I have come to accept to take any news from Nigeria with a pinch of salt. I no longer take it seriously or accept it as gospel, especially stories that are directly from Nigeria. So when I read a story earlier this week, I called my father to confirm the validity of the story, he told me that the story has been disproved. It seemed that it was the handiwork of some mischievous miscreants who, have nothing better to do but spread misinformation for their churlish and childish perverted delight.

Depending on your cultural background your name and title plays a significant part of how you are ranked in the society. Your name is precious and should be guarded diligently. Some people have been known to change their name completely or create a compound name by adding to the existing.

In a nutshell, their existentialist interpretation of the human condition led to the depressing conclusion that life is meaningless and absurd. Even so, although Camus and Sartre recommended heroic defiance in the face of existential absurdity, the strong nihilistic flavor of their writings is not suitable in our contemporary world which urgently requires that go beyond existential nihilism and construct meaning for our lives, both as individuals and as members of the global community, to promote knowledge, love, kindness, solidarity and brotherly feeling among the more than seven billion inhabitants of this planet within the context of environmental sustainability.

Many Christians do not want to go to school. Those inclined to do so would rather all their studies were theoretical. We want to get a degree in French but not know how to speak the language. We want to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering but be unable to change the spark plugs of a car. We eagerly recite scripture but it is clear the word of God has not been made flesh in us.

The recent dismissal by the Nigerian Police of its officers attached to the Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike is a huge food for thought. Police Spokesman, Dan Awunah, says the officers were dismissed after having been found guilty of breaching the police conduct during the last parliamentary election in Rivers State. Awunah also said the misconduct occurred despite warnings from Ibrahim Idris the Inspector General of police (IGP).
