The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will investigate alleged distribution of fake result sheets in some polling units in Saturday’s legislative re-run elections in Rivers.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was not prepared for the Federal and State Houses of Assembly re-run elections in the state.

Though their names are not on the ballot papers but the election is largely a battle between Governor Nyesom Wike and his predecessor, Mr Chibuike Amaechi who is now Minister of Transportation. They are the two personalities who will largely influence the direction of things at the state level.

It will be a show of political might and test of their strength. Amaechi who came into the state weekend said he was on ground to mobilise his All Progressive Congress, APC members for the election.

Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, weekend, traded words, accusing each other of corruption and mismanaging the resources of the state.

The race for political supremacy in Rivers State enters its final stretch this week as the two major political parties, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC, get set for this weekend’s elections for 36 National Assembly and state constituencies.

Thousands of youths from Rivers South-East senatorial district, yesterday, took to the streets of Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, in protest over the recent alleged hate speeches of Governor Nyesom Wike against their prominent sons and leaders.

CHAIRMAN of Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Davies Ikanya, has urged Rivers people, and Nigerians to ignore the numerous campaigns by Governor Nyesom Wike under the guise of thanksgiving service to mark his victory at the Supreme Court. He said they should ask the governor to provide explanations to his confessions of how he got his victory at the Supreme Court.

Rivers State governor, Mr Nyesom Wike, has said that only those in support of political armed robbery will kick against his declaration that any plan to rig election in the state will be resisted.

Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has reacted to allegations levelled against him by his successor, Governor, Nyesom Wike, of Rivers State, that he (Amaechi) spent $150m to fund the campaign of All Progressives Congress’ elections while in office.
