Standing firmly by the good in our culture
If you’re African, especially if you’re Nigerian, you’re born into one culture or the other, whether you’re conscious of that fact or not. It is not put down in book form, but is passed on by our parents, and by the larger society. There are things you just don’t do because of the culture you were born into. Some of these have to do with moral values/ethics, sanitation, and deference to what rulers stand for.
The disabled —untapped organisational resource
Every employer wants to employ the best hands to help achieve organizational goals, but not all of them know how to source for the best hands in our today’s skill deficient work force.
What a shame
Mr. Bisi Lawrence of the Passing Scene column in the Vanguard newspaper is an elder statesman in the pen profession and over the years, he had endeared himself to many of his fans who read him regularly. I want to count myself lucky to be one of his great fans who had benefitted from his well of experience for his sober offerings on Saturday Vanguard.
Even the best laid plans can go wrong
It was a week to my promotional exams to form five, and I had been following a carefully laid out revision plan.
Oil and water
When the government led by the late President Yaradua first floated the idea of amnesty for the ‘restless youth’ of the Niger Delta, I did a piece questioning the rationale because my interpretation of the the Amnesty International charter did not include welfare packages and luxury trips (thinly disguised as training programs) for people who in plain speak have done nothing but take innocent lives and wreak wanton destruction albeit in the name of ‘fight for rights’; yeah! But that’s just me sitting here tapping away.
