EKWULOBIA—VICE Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka , Prof. Joseph Ahaneku is a happy man now following the feat achieved by his students. This was because the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the university had again proved that it was not just good in theory but also in the practical aspect of their studies. Seven graduating students from the department constructed a “made in Nigeria” mini bus to the satisfaction of the university community.

Perhaps, the reason why we are yet to defeat Boko Haram is that we, as a nation, have not approached the war on terror as a nation at war.

AWKA—THE South Saharan Social Development Organization, SSDO, a non –governmental organization, NGO, and the wife of Anambra State governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, have put smiles on the faces of 50 persons with disabilities by empowering them with equipment and seed money to start mobile phone repaid business. The beneficiaries, comprising 30 males and 20 females drawn from various parts of Anambra State, were trained for three months at the Aguleri Rehabilitation Centre by SSDO, with the support of Oxfam Novib, an international donor agency.

The idea of a witch-hunt seems to be trending now in Nigeria, as everyone with a case to answer believes he or she is being witch-hunted, forgetting the evidence presented by the courts to justify the case’s existence. Another very famous witch-hunt is currently taking place in the United States and if you’re familiar with the term “Benghazi” you’re sure to already know about it.

SINCE his ouster from power via the March 28 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan has maintained a rather low profile. He has minded his business and has said little that could even been vaguely interpreted as political.

IN a determined bid to carry out the Federal Government’s order to put crude oil thieves out of business the military, particularly the Navy, has since intensified its offensives to locate and to destroy all equipment or products belonging to illicit refinery operators caught in the act. In the Central Naval Command, CNC, hub of Nigeria’s oil/gas production and highest with records of oil thefts, hardly a week passes without the Navy torching large wooden boats laden with volumes of stolen crude as well as locally fabricated refining machinery and thousands of litres of refined products, mostly diesel abandoned by the clandestine operators.

Three years after the Apapa regeneration plan was drawn, the project estimated to gulp N11 billion has failed to see the light of the day, inspite of several efforts to achieve the dream. The Federal Government has been under attack over Apapa Port and Oshodi- Apapa Expressway gridlock by stakeholders including Lagos state government over failure to keep to an earlier partnership agreement with the state government on the regeneration project of Apapa axis, estimated to cost N11 billion.
