Former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari has died at the age of 93. He died yesterday at the National Hospital Abuja.

Pop star, Davido has been enmeshed in another controversy as he was alleged to have assaulted  singer, Kizz Daniel’s manager, Oluwatumininu Lawrence, for accidentally bumping into him at the Green Room (Artistes’ waiting room), during the ‘City of David Concert.’ The concert held Thursday night at the Oceans View Ground, Eko Hotel, Lagos. 

Lt Col Sakaba  died for his country.  He was killed by Boko Haram insurgents last month. He left a wife  and a baby boy. He was the commander of the battalion that was overrun by Boko Haram in Metele. That massacre at Metele sparked more national anger than sorrow. The military admitted, hesitantly, the horror  but claimed that the casualty figures thrown around were the work of mischief makers. Late Sakaba and his soldiers were buried in the midst of doubts, anguish  and recriminations.

The Akwa Ibom State government has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by the Nigeria Police to send anti-terrorism unit to the state few weeks to the 2019 elections, saying that it was a politically motivated. A statement from the state Commissioner of Information, Charles Udoh, advised the Federal Government to send such units to the North East part of the country where insurgency was ravaging parts of the country.

Many Nigerians may not know that there are refineries in Nigeria. Our four refineries have been comatose in a quarter of a century. Those who know that four refineries exist in Nigeria, wonder day and night why their national infrastructures in Port Harcourt (1&2), Warri and Kaduna would operate at zero level.
