The Mbamili Diocese of the Anglican Church says it lost 45 of its churches to the flood, including the Cathedral Church of St. Michael in the area. Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev Henry Okeke, said most of his parish priests have been forced to relocate to safe areas, with some going to their villages. The Bishop’s official residence and his offices have also been submerged. 

Mr Chijoke Urama, an environmentalist, has called on Nigerians to cultivate the habit of keeping drains around their homes and offices clean to reduce incidence of flood in the country.

CHAIRMAN of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state, Comrade Arinzechukwu Awogu yesterday made a passionate appeal to authorities of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to come to the rescue of the victims of the current flood disaster in the area.

A nine-year old girl and a primary three pupil of Light International School, Okoti, in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State, Miss Benedicta Izuchukwu has reportedly been killed by flood, prompting Governor Willie Obiano to ask those still residing in the flooded areas of the state to relocate immediately.

There are fears of epidemic in Ijaw  riverine communities sacked by flood in Edo and Bayelsa states, yesterday, as residents drink, bathe and cook with flood water, while virtually all the schools have been shut down due to the catastrophe.
