This politics of performance

IT is preposterous to argue that President Goodluck Jonathan has shown the world that performance is the focal point, the pivot, the driving force of politics. Performance is the strength of Jonathan’s transformation magic.

All over the world, transformers, performers and achievers are typically humble, taciturn and focused. Performers do not seek unhealthy media attention or hype because it could cause a stray. The essential goal of such persons is to perform and allow the press to find out and evaluate the performance objectively. This is the pathway courted by the likes of President Jonathan. It is the same path the likes of Senator J.E Manager, descriptively captured as a three-legged enigma by Ekanpou Enewaridideke, befriend and walked on.

The current PDP flagbearer of Delta South Senatorial District, Manager, is a competent and experienced politician who is still in the flush of his second tenure in the Senate. His foray into politics was in 1991 when he became the elected chairman of Bomadi council under the ticket of SDP and later became the Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Delta State in 1992 and Delta state GDM chairman in 1995. In 1999 he became the pioneer PDP chairman of Delta state and later became the Hon. Commissioner for Works,Housing and Transport, and today he is the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District.

He was democratically mandated on December 7, 2014 to continue his senatorial voyage in 2015. In all these capacities, Manager recorded unbeatable development strides in all sectors of life.

It was as a Commissioner for Works,Housing and Transport that Manager made possible the construction of Bomadi bridge across River Niger;this bridge has linked Delta Senatorial District to Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial Districts peopled by the Igbos and the Urhobos.

The same Manager has today brought road to Torugbene, Ogriagbene, Owougbene and Agbaragbene ; and more importantly now that the Gbaregolor-Esanma bridge has been constructed through the relentless pressure of Manager, communities like Ogbeinama,Amasuomo,Akparemogbene, Akugbene, Ogodobiri, Ezebiri, Furukama, Okubama and many others will open up for economic and social development. All these are attempts by Manager to transform Delta State in corresponding rhythm with the transformation agenda of President Jonathan.

Towards the empowerment of the grass root cxommunities, Manager has created EMPOWERMENT structures for the Ijaws, Isokos and the Itsekiris through job-creation, the purchase and equitable distribution of cars, motor cycles, fishing nets, clippers, hair-dressing eqipment, agricultural implements and many others.

Even though he is a politician, he is always sensitive to the needs of the people at all levels. Interestingly, because he has a highly analytical mind aided by his fluent command of English, his contributions to debates in   the Senate have often given him a distinguishing mark and legislative prominence. Here his profession as a lawyer comes in handy in the effective performance of his legislative duties.

In this era of transformation agenda, the Senate should be occupied by the personalities who have shown visible capability for development at every level of their involvement in politics. The Senate is not for ethnic jingoists whose minds are the abode of negative thoughts.

The Senate is not for people who have not performed in their present positions. The Senate is not for people who have the genes of some governors who have defected from their party because of their presidential ambitions. The Senate should be occupied by serious minded politicans who can sincerely advance the transformation agenda of President Jonathan, not a place for non-performers who are merely in search of hibernation harbour.

In the past few years, Manager had worked with President Jonathan as a one to be trusted. In Nigeria’s murky political terrain, this counts for much. Thus, by implication, Manager has all the credentials to have the mandate not only to represent Delta South senatorial District in 2015 but the ability to do more for the state and region in a larger capacity in the forthcoming political dispensation.

In temperament, performance and political expsture and maturity, Senator J.E Manager is the right candidate for the Senate. He can address the challenges of the Ijaws, Isokos and the Itsekiris. Likewise, these three tribes in the state have nothing to fear or regret if they vote for him to represent them in the Senate in 2015.
