The President General of the Nigerian Football and Other Sports Supporters’ Club, Dr.Rauf Ladipo, has urged the Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman, to continue with the rehabilitation of various sporting facilities initiated by his predecessor Professor Taoheed Adedoja.
Ladipo made the call while fielding questions on the state of the facilities which Adedoja started rehabilitating before the expiration of the tenure of the last administration.
According Ladipo, Suleiman would be writing his name in gold by completing those laudable projects initiated by the former minister of sports which were embarked upon to provide the youths in the country with quality sporting facilities to enable them horn their skills. He said the presence of such facilities would help them in their quest to bring glory to the country.
He said it would also enable them make names for themselves and take care of their various families.
In his word: “It was indeed sad that the former minister, Professor Taoheed Adedoja had to go because the tenure of that government elapsed,” Ladipo began.
“And in the wisdom of the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, he appointed a new minister in the person of Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman. Now, my advice to the new Minister of Sports, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman is that he should see that those projects his predecessor started rehabilitating before now are completed for the good of the country. He should take a cue from the former minister and continue with the rehabilitation of those projects because we need them for the future.
”The stadium is a place where our athletes horn their skills, so rehabilitating them for future use will do the country a great deal. It will serve our interest for tomorrow and the minister will be writing his name in gold by ensuring that completion of those projects is effected for the use of Nigerians.
“I know that the new minister will give a listening ear to this plea; I will still bring the matter to his attention whenever I have opportunity of meeting him. Thank God there is a plan already in place to meet him in the near future. To my mind, those projects are very important for the development of sports in the
country,” Ladipo insisted.
