THE Federal Government said yesterday no fewer than 21 local government areas in 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have been submerged by flood as a result of torrential rainfall in the past few days.

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday called for calm over the flash flood caused by the torrential rainfall experienced throughout the state.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says no fewer than 19 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Jigawa state fall within the high and moderate flood risk areas.

Tragedy occurred on Wednesday morning when a Toyota Corolla car got stuck in a bad spot at Fomon bus stop, Ewu Owa, Gberigbe road, Ikorodu Lagos.

The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, on Sunday called on President Bola Tinubu, to activate immediate emergency measures to tackle flooding in the country before it starts to ravage homes.

ABUJA — Some states said yesterday they had started taking steps to stem the tide of severe flooding that may result from release of water from the Lagdo dam in Cameroon.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said yesterday that Delta, Ondo, Sokoto and 16 other states, as well as 56 communities across the country, were likely to witness heavy rainfall in this month of August. The agency said the heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in the affected areas.
