Boko Haram jihadists have taken over a town in northeast Nigeria after sacking and occupying a military base, local officials and security sources told AFP on Saturday.

The Chief of the Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has commended pilots and other personnel participating in Operation Thunder Strike for their commitment, courage and doggedness in the fight to prevent the Albarnawi group of Boko Haram terrorists from establishing a foothold in the Lake Chad Green fringes.

A civil society group, African Community Impact and Development Network, Afri-CID, has urged the European Union, EU, to investigate the alleged activities of some foreigners from France in relation to the Boko Haram menace operating around the Lake Chad Basin.

Two people were killed and 25 others kidnapped in a Boko Haram ambush on a civilian convoy in Borno, security sources and a local resident said on Thursday.
