LUTH made me a widower, Father of four cries out
Oduyoye says he lost his lovely wife in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, as a result of his inability to pay the N1.382, 700 hospital bill. Folake Oduyoye, 35, was admitted September 17 following complications from a caesarian section carried out on her in a private hospital. After a couple of weeks in LUTH, she was discharged but unable to go home because of her husband’s inability to pay the bill. She was detained and within the period developed other complications.
Urhobo oil communities threaten to shut down Utorogun Gas Plant
UGHELLI—THE Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM), Urhobo ethnic nationality chapter, Delta State, staged a cautionary protest to the Utorogun Gas Plant, hosted by Otor-Udu, Otughievwen and Iwhrekan in Udu and Ughelli South Local Government Areas of the state, last week, to draw attention of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NDPC, operator of the plant, to their lingering demands.
Sand merchants endanger Bayelsa seaside communities
Yenagoa—THE dumbfounding demand for sand for construction work and land filling in the predominantly riverine Bayelsa State is threatening the existence of communities, along the rivers, creeks and rivulets, across the state due to the jumbled quarrying for sand. Niger Delta Voice investigations revealed that prior to the invasion of the rivers and creeks by the sand merchants with their hi-tech foreign built dredgers and locally fabricated dredgers, many of the communities were troubled by marine erosion.

Lagos: 417 fire incidents, others in two months
LAGOS State has recorded at least 417 fire incidents and other emergencies in the first two months of 2015, destroying property worth billions of Naira. Vanguard gathered that the Lagos State Fire Service has responded to 10 fire disasters within the first eight days of March. This came barely a week after the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA said that 1,064 persons were displaced by major fire disasters recorded in Lagos.
LASEPA moves in to curb noise pollution
NOISE from traffic, public address systems and loud music are gradually becoming the primary sources of noise contamination and pollution in Lagos with the attendant hearing problems and health issues. The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) General Manager, Mr Adebola Shabi, recently disclosed that the agency receives an average of 10 to 15 petitions on noise pollution daily.
