The Lagos State Government has refuted the claim being circulated in some print and online media that 10 teachers in the Post Primary Teaching Service Commission die monthly.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, stated that that trend of death was noticed in the records of past administration which compelled the current administration in the State to introduce a quarterly sensitization seminar for teachers in the State employ.

The Commissioner further clarified that the Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration has not, and did not record deaths of teachers in droves as being reported in some newspapers and online platform.

Meantime, the need to produce morally and academically sound children that will be at per with their contemporaries in advanced countries, was the focus of a one day seminar held yesterday, for primary school teachers in Lagos State.

The seminar was organised by African Child Education Right Initiative, ACERI in partnership with Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.

The seminar tagged, “ Lagos State Primary School Teachers’ Personal Performance Training,” had the Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Commissioner of Education, Dr ( Mrs) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, represented by Mrs Margaret Solarin, Tutor General and Permanent Sec. Education District 2: admonishing the  teachers that as critical stakeholders, they needed to develop their capacities and expose themselves to quality education if they want to get the best out of children at the primary level.’’

Lagos issues 2-week ultimatum to private schools to register

Also, the Lagos State Government, via the Ministry of Education, has begun a state wide registration of private schools, aimed at having an accurate number of private schools and the number of teachers and students within, so as to adequately plan and cater for them.

This was made known by the Deputy Governor and General Officer Commanding, Education, of the state, Dr. Idiat Adebule, in a press briefing at Lagos State Government Secretariat, yesterday.

According to Dr. Adebule, the registration process, which will be open for two weeks, is free of charge and not aimed at generating revenue.
