Interim Chairman of the parallel Board of the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Jarret Tenebe and the Ist Vice Chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Ahmed Gara Gombe have faulted the letter purportedly written to the Acting Scretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation condemning their action to form another football body.

Speaking in Abuja yesterday, Tenebe who disclosed that he has received about eight death threats from unconfirmed quarters said the FIFA letter was fake and his group would ask FIFA for the authenticity of the letter.

“The purported FIFA letter is fake. We have sent the bromide to FIFA this morning (yesterday) to ask for the authenticity. I will be heading to FIFA headquarters in Zurich to meet with the President, Sepp Blatter, with three of the members of my board of the NFA,” he said.

Gara Gombe on his part said that FIFA has actually denied ever sending a letter to the NFF, adding that the world body has asked for a copy of the letter.

“That letter cannot be from FIFA, if it is, it will be FIFA’s fastest reply to issues from its affiliate bodies. We released the list of our Interim Board at 3p.m. and they said FIFA replied at about 4p.m. FIFA does not act that way.

I called FIFA to confirm that they actually sent that letter and they denied and even asked for a copy of the purported e-mail to be sent to them,” Gombe said yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Abuja office of the NFF may be thrown into confusion on Monday as the Interim Board chairman has said he will resume there on Monday.

“After my inauguration tomorrow (today) in Abuja, we will tell Nigerians our plans of action and programmes of football development,” he said, adding, “Having received eight death threats by trunk calls I laugh. I don’t need police protection. I will fight like all battles of life and return victorious.”

He warned that “if the NSC does make a mistake of giving the NFF any money hence forth, I will take them to the EFCC for fraud. They can’t give money to an agency not known to law. Has the NFF not deposed to court affidavits that they are not NFA? It is NFA that is known to law and not NFF”.

However, Director General of the NSC, Dr. Patrick Ekeji in an earlier response to a question posed by Saturday Vanguard sports, said the Harrison Jalla group has no powers to institute another football body in the country as only the sports minister as stipulated in the act of parliament setting up the NFA, has such powers.
