Former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Prof. Victor Nnam, has criticized the former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and public condemnation of the party’s leadership.
Ezeugwu resigned from the PDP over the weekend, citing internal discontent with the party’s operations. In his resignation letter to the PDP Ward Chairman in Udenu Local Government Area, he accused the party of betraying its core values, stating that “merit was frequently sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity and deceit.”
He further expressed gratitude for rejecting what he described as a “Trojan Horse,” claiming attempts were made to economically ground and politically ridicule him.
Reacting to the resignation, Prof. Nnam labeled Ezeugwu a hypocrite, questioning why he chose to speak out only after leaving office. “He is just a sycophant who shouldn’t be taken seriously. If not, why is he crying foul now? Why didn’t he tell the world since 2022?” Nnam asked.
Nnam accused Ezeugwu of biting the hand that fed him, highlighting his political rise under the former governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who allegedly secured him a third-term ticket against zoning arrangements in Udenu.
Responding to Ezeugwu’s claim that the PDP deceived him into executing constituency projects with promises of a return ticket, Nnam mocked the assertion, stating, “So a third-term House member needs to be deceived before he can empower his own people? That’s laughable.”
Nnam also questioned Ezeugwu’s legislative record, describing him as arrogant, self-serving, and politically treacherous during his 12-year tenure. He accused Ezeugwu of benefiting immensely from Ugwuanyi’s administration, including acquiring prime properties and attempting to sponsor a controversial bill for pension benefits for former governors, which was dropped after public outrage.
He concluded by attributing Ezeugwu’s PDP exit to frustration over his failed bid for a fourth term, which would have extended his tenure to 16 years. “Now, he appears to be shifting blame onto Gburugburu for his political exit,” Nnam remarked.
Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu represented Udenu Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2023 and served as the Assembly Leader from 2015 to 2023.
