TechHerfrica wins prestigious Gender Equality Award for women empowerment

TechHerfrica, an organization bridging the gender digital divide in women, particularly in rural areas, has won the Josephine Nkemdilim Masade Award for Gender Equality at the Community & Human Rights Awards (CAHR).

This award celebrates TechHerfrica’s ongoing work to bridge digital and financial divides for underserved women across Nigeria.

Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni, the founder of TechHerfrica, expressed her gratitude for the recognition and shared how much the award represents for the organization’s team and mission.

“This award is for every woman who’s ever believed in TechHerfrica’s vision,” she said. “Receiving the Josephine Nkemdilim Masade Award for Gender Equality on behalf of our team is a testament to our collective efforts.”

Founded with a vision to close gaps and empower rural women through digital skills, TechHerfrica has dedicated itself to creating an equitable future. Over the years, the organization has trained countless women, equipping them with the digital tools they need to be self-reliant, financially secure, and confident in their ability to take charge of their lives.

Receiving the award on behalf of the organization, Olanrewaju Alaka, the founder of Laerryblue Media described the award as “a testament to the great impact Techherfrica has had on these rural women. It takes an exceptional leader to do that.”

“Being part of TechHerfrica, I’ve witnessed this organization bridge gaps and provide financial inclusion to women who otherwise might not have access,” he continued.

The CAHR Awards, sponsored by CSR-in-Action in partnership with the Ford Foundation, celebrates individuals and organizations working towards human rights, gender equality, and community support across Africa. This year’s award for TechHerfrica underscores the impact of grassroots efforts aimed at closing social and economic disparities for women.

TechHerfrica’s work focuses on training women in digital skills, providing access to financial resources, and building a supportive community for those in remote and underserved areas. Through these initiatives, the organization has become a voice for marginalized women, making sure their needs are addressed and their talents recognized.

With this recent award, TechHerfrica is even more inspired to keep pushing for change. “We’re honored and motivated to continue our work,” said Adekemi Adefisayo, a team member of the organization. “Thank you, CSR-in-Action and the Ford Foundation, for recognizing our dedication to gender equality.”

This award is a win for TechHerfrica and for all the women and communities who have joined in their vision for a brighter, more inclusive future.
