Group trains over 80 women in Onitsha to bridge gender gap in ICT

NNEWI – No fewer than 80 women in Onitsha, Anambra State, have successfully received training on digital technology conducted by AI Hub Africa, an ICT specialist outfit.

The free-of-charge training, which started over three months ago, according to AI Hub Africa, is aimed at bridging the gender gap in digital technology among the female population.

Speaking with newsmen in Onitsha at the conclusion of the three-month training for the women, founder of AI Hub Africa, Dr. Mrs. Happiness Akabuike, said that the free three-month intensive training in software development is the company’s contribution to the female fold to mark the forthcoming International Women’s Day, IWD, that is coming up with the theme, “Break the Pattern”

She also stated that the training is designed to provide the women trainees real-time project experience and career mentorship, adding that AI Hub Africa, in collaboration with Women Tech-Makers Onitsha and Google Partners, wants to take women in Onitsha and its environs to another level in Digital technology.

Describing the training as a strategic intervention aimed at empowering women and preparing them for opportunities in the digital economy, Dr Mrs Akubuike noted that the programme is not just about training, but about the transformation of the women.

“We are building confident women who will lead, innovate, and create opportunities in the technology space. We came up with the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at empowering women and preparing them for opportunities in the digital economy.”

She disclosed that the trainees will be decorated at the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026 celebration as part of the activities it will use to mark the IWD celebration and other events of the day for women.

Vividly excited Dr Mrs Akubuike attributed the success of the training programme to the commitment of volunteer facilitators and mentors, including Mr. Nonyelu Emmanuel Chinedu, Mr. Andrew Elechi, Mr. Anyadi Chukwunonso, Mr. Victor Okoli, and Cynthia Enweonwu-Arinze.

Others include Mr Genesis Nwokocha, Mr. Somtochukwu Azi and Mrs. Obuesi Ogonna Augustina, whose voluntary contributions played a vital role in shaping the participants’ learning experience.

She disclosed that AI Hub Africa, in collaboration with Women Tech-makers Onitsha and Google Partners, has concluded arrangements to bring notable speakers who will share knowledge with the trained women at the IWD celebration.
