Victor Eleanya is a software developer in the fin tech and automobile industries. He has Bachelor’s Degree in Polymer and Textile Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and a Master’s Degree in Data Analysis from Solent University, Southampton, United Kingdom. In this interview, he speaks about his passion for digital tech and other matters.

Excerpts:

How did you discover your passion for digital technology?

I was working in a tech company in Lagos as a business developer and as part of my responsibilities, I was expected to make presentations and sell the company’s products. But in order to do so I had to understand the product so I interacted with the software developers in the company and that sparked my interest and passion for digital technology.

Was that the reason you decided to study data analysis and engineering in the United Kingdom?

Yes, it was my passion for digital technology that drove me to study that course.

From your experience in the UK, how will you compare the technological development of Nigeria with that of the United kingdom?

Indeed, it will surprise you to know that many Nigerian engineers contribute to the technological advancements of the United Kingdom. One thing that strikes me is that the government over there is intentional concerning technological advancement while the Nigerian government pays lip service to it and that is why Nigeria is lagging behind.

Don’t you think Nigeria needs technology to improve our economy?

Yes, I share that school of thought. Imagine if we have good technological infrastructures it will help to boost the economy beyond expectations. One of such ways is to have a good database which will serve as a benchmark for the social economic development of the country.

Over time you have been involved in several seminars and presentations, what has been your experience?

The experience has been very interesting. I had the opportunities to learn from other software developers and to share opinions with them during the course of my profession. I have also attended seminars both home and abroad and this has helped to shape my scopes of things.

What is your plan for the future?

I plan to set up a consultancy firm in the tech space where I intend to provide jobs for young people and further help to improve the economy and strengthen the technological advancements of the country. And by doing so I believe the rate of unemployment in the country will reduce.
