Expect a new beginning

Expect a new beginning

By Funmi Komolafe

Brethren, I congratulate you. God in his mercy has given us the grace to witness the month of August, the month of  a new beginning. By the grace of God, as we witnessed the end of the month of July, we shall joyfully see the end of August in the name of Jesus.

Let’s spare time to pray for our nation as we pray for ourselves with a particular focus that God should put an end to killings in our land and give our leaders the wisdom to do what is necessary.  Our homes may not be at peace when the nation is at war with itself or invaders.

Today’s edition will focus on the intervention of God for  a new beginning.

Don’t get me wrong, God made everything perfect   The book of Genesis chapter 1 tells us the story about creation. Verse 31 of that chapter states:” And God saw every thing that he had   made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day”.

Note, “it was very good”.  Very good here means it was excellent.  It was perfect.

After God made everything perfect, Man introduced imperfection with sin. Accordingly to Biblical records, the serpent was the instrument that led Man to commit sin.  Let’s look at what happened   after the serpent led the couple to commit the sin of disobedience.

Genesis 3 vs. 7 “ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons”.

Verses 9 and 10 “ And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself”.

In verse 11, see the Lord’s comment “ And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee but thou shouldest not eat?” The point we are making here is that for many of us, it disobedience that has led us to where we have found ourselves today.

For many others, enemies within our families or even those we have called friends led us to the unpleasant situation we find ourselves today.        Whatever is that situation that persists in your life that you are uncomfortable with, let me assure you that our God is able to turn things around and you will live a peaceful life.

Let me give an example of a home in which the husband is a rich businessman who indulges in adultery with impunity. He has money so; he believes he can have any woman he wants. The wife also seeing that her husband won’t change also began to chase money by all means because she had concluded that ‘ this man is for everybody and not for me alone’. In that kind of home, the children are not well nurtured. Parents have no time to draw them near to God or even sit with them to have intimate discussions.

The result is that you find the boys keeping bad companies, sometimes taking to drugs or other vices. The young girls in the home have no mentor in their mum, so they live a wayward life, engaging in all sorts of vices.

By the time such parents look back to see what the children of yesterday now adults are doing, it would be too late to withdraw the teenagers or young adults from sinful life.

Let me give a practical example of a lady in the type of home I described earlier.  In her own case, she wasn’t engaged in careless dating as such but she made up her mind that the man that must marry her must be rich, influential indeed must be somebody in the society.

So, she turned down young men with a bright future ahead of them. To shorten the story, by the time she was close to 40, she was still single yet to find her dream husband. Finally, she had a stroke and died.  Had she benefitted from wise counsel from her parents, she wouldn’t have lived the way she did. For other people, it has been a life of struggle with nothing to show for it. The struggle to have children after about a decade of marriage and visits  to doctors  did not  produce  any child. Faced with this situation, the couple may be thinking of putting an end to the marriage due to family pressure.  Perish such thoughts.  God has not forgotten you.

In this new month, ask God to do a new thing.

Let the words of the Lord in Isaiah 43 vs . 18 and 19 ring in your ears “ Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it, I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert”.

Let this words ring continuously in the heart and you will see the result physically.

When a new thing springs forth, there will be joy.

In the name of Jesus,  during  this  the month of a new beginning , God in his mercy will turn every point of sorrow in your life to joy and you shall rejoice.

To someone else, it is a challenge with health issues. There is someone lying on a sick bed saying, to herself, “ Can I ever be healed?”. Yes you can be healed if you believe in God and cry unto him.

I’ll share a testimony given by a man in a Pentecostal church. He said, his wife gave birth to a set of twins, two girls   in 2016, while one grew up normally, the other,  had difficulty with speaking and walking.   He took the child to many hospitals carrying out several tests until he became broke.

Then he decided to cry to God in 2018.   He went to the altar of the church and prayed until tears began to flow. He was asking God for a miracle. He lives in one city and the wife and children in another city here in Nigeria.

To his greatest surprise, when he got home, the child who had been unable to walk, stood up to welcome him and spoke.  He said he was so shocked that he almost collapsed. It was the first time the  child walked or spoke.

That is the hand of the God of  a new beginning.

I am confident, that once you cry unto him with faith, he will intervene and give you rest from that particular challenge. Hear the word of God concerning health challenges as recorded in Exodus 15 vs. 26 “ And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statues, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians : for I am the LORD that healeth thee”.

Brethren, did you get the message here? Obedience is the condition given. Obedience takes us to righteousness   and righteousness brings in our miracles.

These days, many of us are too busy to devout time for prayers.  Many rely on pastors to pray for us as if pastors do not have challenges.  They do because they are humans.

The only one who has no challenge but has the solution to all challenges is the Almighty God. Therefore, for us to have a trouble free life, we need Jesus. We must make a conscious effort to court his friendship.  Be prepared to obey the Word completely and the joy of the Lord will be your portion.

I pray that this month of August, new things of joy will manifest in your life and mine in Jesus name.
