Security forces foil terror attack on governor

Pakistani security forces on Wednesday successfully foiled a terror attack targeting the Balochistan provincial governor and arrested two terrorists during a raid in the Pakistani province, an official said.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti said that two suspected suicide attackers were arrested for planning to attack Balochistan Governor Muhammad Achakzai in the Gulistan area of Killa Abdullah in the province.

The security forces also seized two suicide vests along with a huge amount of arms and ammunitions, said Bugti.

The terror plot was crafted in Afghanistan and the timely action had saved many lives, the provincial home minister said.

He said the detainees belong to the group involved in a suicide attack on Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada back in August, 2015, which killed 22 people including Shuja Khanzada.

The operation came days after four suicide bombers attacked a church in the provincial capital of Quetta, killing nine people and injuring some 57 others.

Two terror attacks had been foiled by security forces so far after the Quetta church attack.

Earlier, two people were killed and another injured in a firing incident inside the premises of a local court in Pakistan’s east Punjab province.

Some gunmen opened fire at the people who came to the court for the hearing of a murder case. The gunman fled the scene after the shooting, Dunya News reported.

Police said the deceased included a chairman of a village council and his relative who was facing the court in the murder case.

The injured man has been taken to hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.

Police said the firing seems to be an incident of personal enmity, but they did not rule out the possibility of a terrorist attack.

The cops have cordoned off the area for investigations, and kicked off a search operation to apprehend the fleeing shooters.
