What do we mean by being preferred? It means to be given priority in what you do. It can also be termed as to promote, or advance to a position or rank. I’ll take us into a journey of three people that were not reckoned with in the Bible, but because they were preferred by God, even the devil couldn’t stop them from fulfilling God’s plans for their lives.
I begin with DANIEL. In Daniel 1:8,the bible says: “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which the king drank, therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
If you look at what happened there when Nebuchadnezzar the king instructed the captain of eunuchs to bring the children in whom was no blemish, well favoured and cunning in knowledge. If you look at verse 9 of the same chapter, the Bible says Daniel was favoured and with tender love before the prince of the eunuchs.
Daniel has so many people qualities in him, one of it is that even when Daniel appeared before King Nebuchadnezzar he was favoured with Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The Bible recorded that they were much more preferred than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
Another key point that made Daniel to be preferred was that he was a faithful servant, in verse four of chapter six the Bible says “For as much as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
Another man in the Bible that was preferred, is the man called David in the Bible. In I Samuel 16:12, the Bible says: “And he sent, and brought him in, Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he”.
When you go through that chapter, you’ll see that Jesse the father of David had eight children and David was the last born. When Samuel the prophet got to Jesse’s house, there were seven children and all of them were brought before Samuel, but they were not the candidate of God’s choice.
David was in the bush rearing his father’s sheep when GRACE fell on him. When you are preferred, Grace will automatically fall on you.
The first quality that made David to be preferred was that he was an obedient child among Jesse’s children. No matter where you are or where you found yourself, when you are preferred, GRACE will single you out. “And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither”.
One good lesson I want people to learn about David is that when you obey your parents, you are only setting yourself for your journey to the top in life. Obedience does not bring down, obedience do set up. The level of your obedience to God will determine the level God will take you to in life. David obeyed his father when he knew not that God has a plan for his future.
When you cannot obey a man that God has placed ahead of you, you cannot obey God that you are not seeing, and that is why the Bible says: “Servants obey in all things. The Bible did not say obey in few things but in all things.”
One other quality that made David to be preferred again was that he was a disciplined child. He was also very humble, it was his humility in all things that made him not to have insulted his elder brothers even when they were angry against him.
The journey of David’s Glory began when he went to the bush, there is no man that will be preferred in life that will not go through a wilderness experience. Your time of your wilderness experience is time God is grooming you for a higher responsibility. Get something right until you are trained, you cannot reign.
Any man who is not ready to be a servant is not fit to be a leader. Daniel was bold in his heart as we have read in the book of Daniel, David also was bold in his heart.
These are men that have confidence in the God. In I Samuel 17:4, the Bible says: “And there went out a champion out of the camp of the philistines named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span “.
When you go further the same word he spoke in verse eight, but this time David her heard him, and in verse 23, the bible says: “And as he talked with them, behold, there came up a champion of the philistine of Gath, Goliath by name out of the armies of the philistines, and spake according to the same words, and David heard them.
May the Lord help us.
