The Abuja Writersâ€™ Forum (AWF) in collaboration with the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy, Abuja is proud to announce a one-day creative writing workshop in Abuja on May 15, 2010.
Resource person for the workshop will be Chimamanda Adichie, who will also be doing a public reading in the evening of the same day.
Prospective participants for the workshop must be aspiring writers under 30 years of age and will be chosen on the basis of their application which must include their personal data and a 600 word story or article. There will be room for only 25 participants.
Police, Security and Democratic Governance
The investiture of Grand Patrons and launching of a new book entitled Police, Security and Democratic Governance in Nigeria packaged by the members of theÂ Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria(ARPON) holds today the 29th of April, 2010 at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotels & Towers, Abuja.
The event which will kick off at 10.00 am will be chaired by Asiwaju Sunday A. Adewusi, CFR, GCON, IGP (rtd),while the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria Rt. Hon. David Mark will be the special guest of honour.
Other dignitaries expected at the event include the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala as the Chief launcher, Senator Bala Mohammed, FCT Minister, special guest with all the state governors as co-launchers. The book will be reviewed by Prof. O. Soyombo of the Dept. of Sociology, University of Lagos while the Inspector General of Police Mr. O.O.Onovo will be the chief host.
Wole Soyinka Prize
The Board of Trustees of The Lumina Foundation, the organisers of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Africa will tomorrow at the Civic Center, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos hold the grand award night of the 3rd Edition of Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa .
The event which promises to be special will have notable literary icons and captains of industry in attendance. It will start at 5.00 pm . The Wole Soyinka prize is a programme aimed at promoting contemporary African Literature.
