Dr. Tony Nwoye, the member representing Anambra East and Anambra West in the House of Representatives, is one of those that can be described as grassroots politicians in Anambra State. Though elected on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Anambra State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Ken Emeakayi has described as untrue a statement credited to the party’s governorship candidate in the 2013 election, Chief Tony Nwoye that former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme endorsed his group’s defection to All Progres sives Congress, APC.

The three governorship candidates of PDP, APC and LP, Tony Nwoye, Chris Ngige and Ifeanyi Ubah vowed last night to reject whatever result that would be announced by INEC from Saturday and Sunday gubernatorial elections in Anambra State.

At a joint news conference addressed at 8pm at Finotel Hotel, Awka, Senator Ngige presented the official position of the three contestants on the election.

THE Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Anambra, Mr. Tony Nwoye could not vote in Saturday’s election as he could not find his name in the voter’s register at his Nsugbe Ward 1 polling booth in Anambra East Local Government Area.

The candidate is likely to secure 25% in Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum, Oyi, Dunukofia, Ogbaru, Ontisha North, Onitsha South, Ihiala, Aguata, Orumba North, Orumba South, Nnewi South, Awka South and Awka North.

THE People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has insisted that Mr. Tony Nwoye remains the candidate of the party despite the interim court order obtained by Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu to replace him in the position in the gubernatorial election.

HEARING in the suit over who gets the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket between Tony Nwoye and Andy Uba for the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra State continues today at the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Comrade Tony Nwoye, the former student activist emerged as the candidate of the PDP for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections at the primaries conducted last weekend. Following his nomination, he spoke to Vanguard in a brief interview. Excerpts:
