Anambra: APC denies fracas at Tony Nwoye’s campaign flag off

By Omeiza Ajayi

ABUJA – The Anambra Governorship Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress APC has described as malicious lies, reports of a fracas during the flag off rally for its candidate, Dr Tony Nwoye in Onitsha at the weekend.

“We were shocked to hear that there was fracas during the flag off. We can tell you on good authority that there was no iota of truth in such rumour. APC had a very peaceful flag off campaign and we challenge anybody in doubt to investigate”, the council stated.

In a statement Sunday in Abuja, Chairman Media sub-committee of the council, Barr. Nonso Madu, also declared the readiness of Dr Nwoye to wrestle power from the incumbent, Willie Obiano.

The council also thanked Ndi Anambra for coming out voluntarily to identify with the ruling party, reminding them that only the APC can restore the lost primacy of the state.

“For those still in doubt, the statement from the Anambra Police Command settled it. According to the statement, the incident involving the police and a driver even took place very far away from the venue of the flag off and it happened after the campaign had ended. Linking the incident with the APC flag off must be a campaign of calumny from political opponents that were stunned by the crowd at the venue of the flag off. We make bold to say that in the history of political campaign ahead of next month’s governorship election, no party recorded the large crowd that graced the APC flag off.

“The turnout was massive and unprecedented. The crowd point to the fact that Ndi Anambra have accepted and made the APC their number one party. They want to be connected to the centre instead of being in opposition. We urge them to continue with such spirit until Hon. Tony Nwoye wrestles power from the incumbent,” the council appealed.

The council equally used the opportunity to commend the Presidency for sending a high-powered delegation led by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to Anambra for the flag off, assuring that Anambra will soon join the centre.

“The delegation from the Presidency should be enough signal that APC is good to go. The crowd should equally be a good indicator to the high-powered delegation from the Presidency that Ndi Anambra are now for APC. APC is good to go”.
