The NWC Vanguard learnt are under pressure to justify the annulment of the primaries against the background of media reports which praised the party for conducting a raucous free primary. Political party primaries in Anambra State had until the APC governorship primaries conducted on August 26, 2017 and shown on live television had almost been characterised by malpractices.

However, some strategic members of the NWC it was learnt are, however, under pressure to produce one of the runners-up in the primaries because of the strong connections between him and a principal member of the National Assembly.

Dr. Nwoye had placed first in the primaries conducted by the Governor Kashim Shettima led panel with 2,154 votes followed by Senator Andy Uba who placed second with 931 votes. Chief George Moghalu was third with 525 votes while the other eight aspirants mustered the remaining votes from the about 4,333 delegates.

The pressure on the NWC nonetheless to invalidate Nwoye’s election and produce one of the losers it was gathered is, however, being strongly opposed by Governor Shettima who at the end of the primaries praised all the aspirants and the local chapter of the party for working to ensure a free and fair primary. The governor is presently out of the country and associates of the governor say he is livid that his effort and testimony are about to be rubbished.

Former governor of the old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo who was chairman of the Anambra State Strategy and Planning Committee has also spoken out against what he alleged plans to rubbish the efforts of the committee. Nwobodo had at the end of the primary conducted on August 26 praised the aspirants and the Governor Shettima led panel for doing a good job in conducting a free and fair primary.

However, party enthusiasts from Anambra State are hopeful that the NWC would just as it avoided crisis in Ondo State when it rejected the report of the appeal committee in the governorship election in that state also reject recommendations by the Anambra Appeals panel suggesting that one of the losers be projected as the candidate.
