CDMA operators, Starcomms at the weekend, announced that it has provided its data subscriber with the latest initiative designed to make renewal of data subscriptions more convenient. It said that subscribers now have three easy options to renew and pay for their data connections. They are, online renewal by using recharge cards, by SMS through direct airtime debit or through subscribers’ Interswitch debit/ATM cards. The new payment initiative is available to the company’s subscribers using either Izap or 1x internet services.

Etisalat Nigeria, has described as baseless rumour, a story in one of Nigeria’s ICT publications alleging that its board was having quibbles over control of equity and investments in the company. According to the company, it was unfortunate that such a baseless and unsubstantiated rumour would come from the vibrant Nigerian media.

The telecom sector in Nigeria has attracted over $18 billion investment in the last eight years on account of predictive regulatory environment and supportive government for a deregulated telecom industry.

MTN Foundation (MTNF), last week, handed over 100 housing units of 2 bedrooms each with construction cost put at N117 million to Habitat for Humanity to manage. This according to the Foundation was geared towards assisting the Federal Government in its efforts at addressing the increasing problem of housing in the country.

Nigerians have been enjoined not to discriminate against those living with down syndrome in the society. The Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation limited, Ms. Nonny Nduka-Eze gave the charge during a seminar organized by Down syndrome Association of Nigeria in partnership with MTN Foundation to kick off the 2009 awareness week in Lagos.

FOR dedicating the second edition of the Glo Marathon to the cause of the Nigerian Heart Foundation, collaborating with the KANU Heart Foundation in raising funds for the treatment of patients with heart diseases and related ailments, Second National Operator, Globacom, touched the foundation’s heart, and just last week, attracted to itself, the Distinguished Merit Award of the Nigerian Heart Foundation.

IN a related development, the company also last week, reaffirmed its commitment to continuously contribute to the rapid development of Nigeria through the provision of telecommunications services for the people at affordable rates.

AS part of its way of giv ing back to the society, Samsung Real dreams project, a Pan African University , Lagos last week graduated its first batch of students. The programe which began in April saw 46 young people exhibiting their learnings at the school.
