Globacom bags award for touching hearts

FOR dedicating the second edition of the Glo Marathon to the cause of the Nigerian Heart Foundation, collaborating with the KANU Heart Foundation in raising funds for the treatment of patients with heart diseases and related ailments, Second National Operator, Globacom, touched the foundation’s heart, and just last week, attracted to itself, the Distinguished Merit Award of the Nigerian Heart Foundation.

Globacom had deliberately dedicated the Corporate Fun Run segment of the Marathon, held Saturday, February 14th with the theme, ‘Run for the Heart’ as a platform for massive awareness about heart health.
Participants at the Marathon were enjoined to promote a more active lifestyle for healthy heart of every Nigerian, and not just run to win. Corporate organisations were also encouraged to make contributions to the Heart Foundation while winners were urged to give part or all their winnings to support the cause.

Globacom had doubled the amount of the highest donor and donated all to the Foundation. This gesture was applauded at the First Nigerian Heart Foundation Awards held at the Sheraton Hotels Abuja, when the Foundation honoured Globacom with the Distinguished Merit Award in appreciation of the firm’s contribution towards heart care. Presenting the award, the Nigerian Heart Foundation said that Globacom’s contributions will help in funding of Research into the prevention and cure of cardiovascular disease as well as finance core awareness campaign on heart disease and related issues.
“Globacom has become a major donor to the Nigerian Heart Foundation. This indeed is an act ‘from the Heart for the Heart”.

Receiving the award on behalf of Globacom, Northern Zonal Manager, Mr. Dele Folorunso said the NHF was doing an onerous and thankless job requiring the support of all, adding that Globacom will always put its weight behind projects that touch on the well being of Nigerians.
