Day Chukwu, Okpala, Egbonu led Rangers to my village
Immediately I saw Arthur Egbunam I remembered his 1979 story that has not been written till date.
Tribute: Manpass, our master saxophonist goes home today
IN one of your moves to check my naughty escapades you spanked me really hard and out of anger I grabbed a kitchen knife nearby, charged at you and you took to your heels.
Agenda for the new NFF
THE authentic President of the Nigeria Football Federation (they should revert to Nigeria Football Association) would have merged yesterday in the election held. It has been put off.
Mr President, please stop this mess from your minister
YOU may accuse President Goodluck Jonathan of not rescuing Chibok girls more than 130 days after their kidnap by the Boko Haram insurgents. You may accuse the Jonathan administration of not being decisive in handling security matters in the country.
June 23, Sao Paulo: Never walk alone
Ronaldo is a staff of Transporte Metropolitano. He speaks passable English and was glad that he met me to rehearse the language. He saw me at the Fabaguara Subway studying a map on the connections I had to make to get to Itakira where Corinthians Stadium is located on top of a hill.
Coming to Brazil: Onochie Anibeze’s Diary
What a thrill to be part of the World Cup in the very acclaimed home of football, Brazil.
But I will not be here for long. I will soon be heading home. However, the little I have seen has been satisfying. The football culture, the friendly Brazilian people and their ever exciting women.
An appeal to Mr. President
IT may not be proper to call on Mr. President for most things the ministries and other government bodies can handle especially when they are yearly budgeted for and monetary allocations paid to the relevant bodies.
Keshi, Amokachi, Rufai reminisce on Westerhof’s birthday
THE return of Clemens Westerhof to Lagos, last week, made some great memories green again.
The man generally acclaimed to be Nigeria’s best-ever coach was in Nigeria for a television documentary on Nigerian football with emphasis on his era when Nigeria was 5th in FIFA’s ranking, the best ever any African country has attained.
Ndanusa’s regret!
He has served as sports minister during which he became the President of Nigeria Olympic Committee, a post he holds till date. He has one regret today.
What I would ask Keshi on Tuesday
ON Tuesday, Stephen Keshi will face the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF. He is expected to submit a provisional list of players for the 2014 Brazil World Cup to the federation and thereafter answer some questions from members and defend the list.
Should we leave Keshi alone?
I was in a long chat with a friend who was worried about the campaign to “leave Keshi alone.”
My friend recognises the freedom coaches enjoy on technical matters especially with regard to selection of players and team tactics. But he is afraid that the Nigerian factor could make nonsense of the freedom coaches enjoy on technical matters. Nigerians either give in to sentiments or get swayed by inducements.
Still on Osaze, Ike Uche
The situation in Eagles is similar to the current one in our track and field where Nigeria has become a one-athlete nation. Blessing Okagbare is the only world class athlete Nigeria has and the whole country, for now, banks on her for medals from the Olympics to the World Championships. Our hopes crash if she falls sick or fails in any of these events.
Re: Understanding Keshi on Osaze, Ike Uche
I commend you on your in-depth football analysis, and all embracing reportorial coverage of football matches played by the national teams on foreign lands. You always cover the extra mile, prowling behind the battle lines to assemble privileged information to back up your reports and analysis.
As Uduaghan mounts the stage tomorrow…
TOMORROW, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan will step on the stage at the Prestigious Oriental Hotel along Lekki Road, Victoria Island, Lagos to receive Vanguard Newspapers’ Personality of the year award.
Adieu Pa Ojidoh
He was a father to many of us in the sports industry. An interesting chat followed. With ease, he was recalling great events of the past, giving out names and dates in a manner that compelled me to share the information with you in my two columns.
