OWERRI— Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, has described the opposition in the state as a group of “nomadic politicians” who think the state’s public fund was a field for them to graze on.

The governor stated this while speaking to bishops and elders of Imo extraction who gathered at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Owerri, for the signing of eight bills into law.

Governor Ohakim reiterated his administration’s resolve to use every kobo that accrued to the state for the benefit of Imo people and the state.

He hinted that Imo has myriads of problems and was not ready to share the meager amount that comes to the state to maintain the appetite of a few politicians who, before now, thought that the collective wealth of Imo people was for them.

According to him, “we need about N400 billion to combat ecological problems and other sectors begging for attention.
“Therefore, there is no free fund for sharing to anybody, no matter how lowly or highly placed.”

Ohakim disclosed that he was not in any publicity contest with anybody or group of people but was more concerned about moving the state forward for the masses to reap the dividends of his administration’s achievements.

He said, for instance, that since the creation of the state in 1976, no administration had ever deemed it fit to construct a befitting Governors’ Office for the state, adding that within the next 30 days, the ultra-modern Governors’ Office constructed by his administration would be ready.

“I am the only governor in the federation that has no office. The ramshackle building I inherited as an office was razed down by politicians. Since then, I have been operating from my house which also serves as my office,” he told the eminent Imo citizens.
