3 dead, 14 injured in Lagos-Ibadan Road accident

THREE persons were, yesterday in Lagos, confirmed dead, while 14 others were injured in an auto crash involving a commercial bus and an articulated vehicle. The incident, which occurred at about 5.30a.m. along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Tollgate, was attributed to speeding on the part of the truck driver, which had no number plate. It collided with the LT bus, number plates KRD 326 XG.

Both vehicles were said to have veered off the road leading to the death of the three passengers, who were trapped. Nine sustained injuries, while five others sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed to the trauma centre on the expressway. The truck driver was said to have survived the incident, but became unconscious and was equally taken to the trauma centre.

It was gathered that men of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Transport Management Authority, LASTMA, and Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, swiftly responded and rushed to scene.

LASEMA boss, Michael Akindele, confirmed the incident, saying the three trapped victims were adults: two males and a female. He urged motorists to avoid reckless driving and to drive within the appropriate speed limit to prevent road accidents. A total of 17 passengers were said to be on board the LT bus when the accident occured.
