Muslim leaders have been urged to train members on the dynamics of leadership in order to effectively take over leadership and management positions of Islamic organisations. The call was made by Chairman of Nasrul-lahi-l-Fatih Society, Lagos Zone 1, Alhaji Taofeeq Adeseun during the group’s zonal quarterly conference themed: “Succession planning in a faith based Society; A practical approach” held in Owode-Ajegunle branch, Lagos recently.

Adeseun who was represented by the vice chairman, Alhaji Sheriff Akinpelu stated that good succession planning would engender individual development and growth of Islamic organisations in the country. He stressed that capacity building of members should be taken very seriously by leaders during planning and programmes in order to usher in smooth transition of baton of leadership of Islamic organisation.

“Every Islamic organisation that desires development has to prepare, groom and nurture members to be able to take up higher responsibilities in any Islamic based organisation. NASFAT members must remember that it is only Almighty Allah that determines and guide our decisions and all members selected for any position must possess the qualities, right attitude, experience and skills needed for that office. This is our responsibility as leaders.”

Also, the Lagos Zone I Missioner, Alhaji. Abdulmumeen Yusuf during his welcome speech at the conference said the Prophet Mohammed was trained by Almighty Allah before he started his prophet-hood. “Prophet Mohammed was trained by Almighty Allah and he also trained his companions. It was after equipping them that he sent them out to succeed him. When Prophet Mohammed was on his sick bed and the congregation was expecting him to lead salat, he asked Abubakar whom he had trained to lead the prayer.

Yusuf also said all Muslims should think, talk, and work for peace as peace is achievable during and after the election. He enjoined Muslims to make the Qur’an their companion because the holy book covers every part of human lives sent by Almighty Allah to guide human creature. The Chairman Council of Elders of the Zone, Alh. Mudashiru Shitta also applauded the organizing committee for a job well done and encouraged other districts to follow suit.
