ONITSHA—Traditional rulers in Anambra State have appointed a 3-man team to interface with Governor Willie Obiano over the vacant chairmanship seat created by the resignation of Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe

Until his resignation  a year ago, Igwe Achebe was the chairman of the state’s Council of Traditional Rulers.

A source revealed that following the vacancy created by the resignation of Igwe Achebe from Anambra North senatorial zone in 2013, the seat was expected to shift to Anambra Central senatorial zone.

According to the source, meetings of the traditional rulers since last April have continued to be stormy on account of the lingering tension arising from failure of the government to appoint a candidate from Anambra Central senatorial zone  as the new State Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council.

Consequently, it was learnt that traditional rulers from Anambra Central senatorial zone held a meeting in July and selected the three-man delegation to visit Governor Obiano without the usual protocol, to brief him on the seeming injustice of not filling the position with a candidate from the zone.

The three-man delegation appointed to see the governor include Igwe Chuba Mbakwe, traditional ruler of Abacha, Igwe Romanus Iloh  of Nise and Igwe Dr.Emeka Ilounoh of Ifitedunu.

The source hinted that the zone was threatening fire and brimstone over the continued delay  in appointing a candidate from the zone as chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council.

The royal fathers, it was gathered, are not happy that the Central Zone remains the only zone the governor was yet to see of all the traditional rulers at zonal levels of the state.

According to the source, the monarchs are aghast that the governor is toying with the zone with the highest number of votes in the tate with about 610,000 registered voters.

An impeccable source said further that traditional rulers of the zone were not happy about the fact that Obi of Onitsha overstayed his four-year tenure in office before he eventually resigned, lamenting that in spite of that, Governor Obiano was yet to replace him accordingly.
