Applicant remanded over alleged robbery

Lagos — A 24-year-old applicant, Oluwaseun Rasaki, has been remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody, over alleged  robbery by an Ikeja Magistrate Court, pending the legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutor, DPP.

Magistrate A. O. Akinde ordered that the defendant be remanded till final determination by DPP.

The defendant was arraigned on a two-count- charge bordering on conspiracy and robbery.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the alleged offence on October 21, 2013, at about 9:30pm, at Km 22 Badagry Expressway Ishashi Bus Stop, Ijanikin area of Lagos.

He said the defendants, while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons robbed one Muritala Adeoye of N85,000, two jewerllery worth N560,000 and a T-shirt worth N1,500.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to section 5 (b) and punishable under section 1 (2) (a) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act , Cap 398 Vol XXii laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 as amended.

However when the charge was read to the defendant who resides at 11 Femi Aluko Street Badagry pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The matter was further adjourned to January 7, 2014, for DPP’s advice.
