Driver, conductor remanded over alleged armed robbery

A commercial bus driver,Steven Emeka, 24, and his conductor, Tosin Kadri, 20, were last Monday, remanded in prison custody for alleged armed robbery.   The defendants who are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery were arraigned in a Lagos Magistrate’s court, sitting in Ikeja, before Magistrate Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Samson Ekikere, told the court that the defendants and others at large, committed the alleged offence on May 24, at about 5:05pm at Offogunewu street, Ile-Epo bus stop in Ikotun area of Lagos. He alleged that the suspects conspired amongst themselves to commit armed robbery, stating that while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons, they robbed one hand bag, valued N10,000, recharge card N8,000, black Berry phone N35,000, make-up, N15,000, total value of N83,000, belonging to one  Mrs Augustina Ikhra.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under section 1 (2) (a) (b) of the robbery and firearms special provisions Act Cap 398, Vol xxii law of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 as amended.   The defendants who reside at 12, Titiayo street, Ile Ewe off Lasu road and 1, Igando, road in Ikotun area of Lagos pleaded not guilty to the two- count charges, levelled against them, when it was read to them, but their plea was not taken.
